Yenepoya Medical College Hospital under the aegis of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) has launched a project titled ‘Covid Care Initiative for the Sailors families’ with financial aid from the Sailors Society Southampton, England. In the initial phase of the project it is envisaged to cover 2450 sailors families out of 5000 scattered in Mangalore, Kasargod, Goa and Ratnagiri regions. Under Covid Care Initiative each family will be provided with a free Covid care kit which contains pulse oximeter, thermometer, masks, sanitizer and First Aid Medicines. A printed leaflet in four languages is also made available as ready reckoner over for usage of the kit. The purpose is to enable the family members to take preventive measures and seek immediate medical assistance in case they find any symptoms related to Covid-19.
The project was inaugurated on the eve of Seafarers Day 25th June 2021 at Kotikulum Merchant Navy Club Kasargod hosted by the local Sailors Society. The shipment of Covid care kits for free distribution to sailors’ families in Mangalore, Kasargod, Goa and Ratnagiri was successfully flagged off jointly by Dr. M.S. Moosabba, Dean of Yenepoya Medical College and Dr. Prakash R.M. Saldanha, Medical Superintendent of Yenepoya Medical College on 5th July 2021 at Yendurance Zone, in the Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) campus. Dr. Mohammed Guthigar, Nodal Officer of the project, Mr. Nelvin Nelson, Hospital Relations Officer, Mr. Ashraf, Chief Pharmacist and Mrs. Vandana, Deputy Manager, Stores-Purchase were present.
