ZulekhaYenepoya Institute of Oncology Supported by Tata Trusts, Mumbai, was inaugurated on June 11th 2022 at Deralakatte Mangalore.
Mr. Sunil Kumar, Minister for Energy, Govt of Karnataka and Minister In-charge of Dakshina Kannada District inaugurated the Institute.
In his inaugural address the Minister congratulated the Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and Tata Trusts in providing an advanced Oncology Hospital to Karnataka state. He also mentioned that “the Karnataka government in collaboration with private partnership is engaged in various programs to address health services. Cancer is a dreadful disease which requires early detection and treatment. The aim of the government is to ensure that the benefit of such programs should finally reach the poorest of the poor in the society”.
Mr. Srinath N CEO of Tata Trusts emphasized that Tata Trusts is involved in cancer care program in a massive manner. There are myths regarding cancer and adequate detection and treatment facilities are not available for the larger sections of the society.He described the importance of cancer care programme, intervention made in the field especially detection, diagnosis and treatment and education. He mentioned that they are collaborating in UP, Orissa, Assam, Gujarat and are working with government and private institutions to make the services available to the general public. He narrated the efforts done through outreach programs to detect cancer at early stages and treatment could be given at right time. He emphasized the need to coordinate and collaborate with the grass root level workers like Asha workers and Anganavadi workers. He lauded the yeomen efforts of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) in realizing the prospect through the partnership. In Conclusion he emphasized the role and responsibilities of the cancer hospital team in providing effective care to the needy patients.
Mr. UT. Khader, MLA, spoke about the importance of preventive measures especially related to food and life style of people.
Dr. M Vijaya Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) gave an overview of the ZulekhaYenepoya Institute of Oncology and the partnership with Tata Trusts. Further he introduced the advanced facilities made available in the institute.
